Part of our guest experience is offering activities on and around Guernsey Private Nature Reserve to suit all our guests ranging from full day Kruger National Park game drives to shorter drives within our reserves and nearby big 5 properties. Another popular excursion is to explore the Blyde River Canyon by foot or by car.

Kruger National Park

Where nearly 2 million hectares of unrivaled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights – this is real Africa. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. This enormous and magnificent park is one of the most popular game parks in the world. Its density of permanent game is unrivalled with hundreds of different species; 507 birds, 336 trees, 147 mammals, 114 reptiles, 49 fish and 34 amphibians!

Manyeleti Game Reserve

The name Manyeleti, means ‘Place of the Stars’ in the local Shangaan language and guests have the opportunity to watch the magnificent Southern Constellation. The Game Reserve extends over 23 750 hectares sharing fenceless borders with the Kruger National Park, Sabi Sands and the Timbavati Game Reserve resulting in free roaming of the wildlife with uninterrupted game viewing all year round.

If a bird lover, you can sit back and try to spot one of the rarest birds currently on the red list, namely the Kori Bustard or any of the 300bird species recorded in the region, including many of the large raptors.

Whether you choose to explore the bushveld through guided open-vehicle game drives or to set out on foot with experienced field rangers, Manyeleti Game Reserve will leave a lasting impression and you will leave with a wide-range of prize photographs.

Blyde River & Panorama Route

The magnificent Panorama Route in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province is one of the continent’s great natural wonders and one of the world’s most beautiful driving routes. The mountainous escarpment of the Mpumalanga highlands is famed for the stunning views of the Lowveld and some of the province’s most spectacular scenery. Centered around the Blyde River Canyon, the world’s third largest canyon, the Panorama Route offers a dramatic terrain of lush mountain peaks scarred with ochre cliff faces. Dozens of magnificent waterfalls, raging rivers and one of the largest forested areas in South Africa.

Blyde Boat Cruise

The interpretation tour is conducted by a knowledgeable guide that can answer your questions and take you to the prettiest spots. These spots include the Three Rondavels (three iconic mountain heads that stand tall and erect, generally rounded with a little point at the top of each). The Kadishi Tufa Waterfall is also on the list of attractions on one of these boat cruises. This is a rare living waterfall that is around 660 feet or 200m high, making it the world’s second-largest tufa fall. A tufa fall refers to millions of years of calcium build-up that forms a hard outer shell, with the water running beneath it. Passers-by quickly notice that the rock face, eroded by generations of powerful water, now resembles a weeping face and the water its endless tears.

Mariepskop Nature Reserve

Mariepskop Mountain is the highest peak in the northern Drakensberg. It stands tall on the eastern side of the Drakensberg Escarpment, with it’s back to the Blyde River Canyon. Ascend the mountain and you will stand 1 945m above sea level, the Indian Ocean and even Maputo visible on a cloudless day. To reach the top there is a steep pass between Klaserie and the ridge of the Drakensberg.

There are many hiking trails in the mountains, ranging from a gentle stroll, to experienced hikers only. If you would like to go on a guided hike , please give us plenty of notice to arrange it for you.

Guernsey Reserve Bush Walks

Bush walks are relaxed and experienced guides use their knowledge of the bush to track animals.  You will learn and observe fascinating facts about the African bush where you will be able to focus on the things that you will usually not be able to see from a vehicle. By being out on foot you cover an area more intensely and you are able to experience nature using all of your senses.

Guernsey Reserve Game Drive

Enjoy early morning, evening or night game drives in an open safari vehicles in the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve. Our qualified guide will share their knowledge and show you the fantastic fauna at Guernsey Nature Reserve.

Hot Air Ballooning 

Experience the magic of lighter-than-air flight near the foot of the Drakensberg Escarpment. As the sun rises, the landscape, the vegetation and, if you’re lucky, some wildlife will provide photo opportunities. Game spotting cannot be guaranteed but on most flights we see plains game like giraffe and wildebeest.

Endangered Species Centre

The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is a unique African wildlife facility focusing on conservation and the sustainability of rare, vulnerable and threatened species. Founded on passion, the centre has adopted a holistic approach to its conservation activities, such as the educating of surrounding communities, tourism, breeding, rehabilitation and anti-poaching, to name a few.
